Red hair, freckles, a broad smile on her lips. So we know the actress Andrea Sawatzki. In an interview with the “ZEIT-Magazin”, the 56-year-old revealed that she has to fight hard for that sympathetic smile.
Andrea Sawatzki’s father suffers from Alzheimer’s
Her mother worked nights at the hospital. The then 8 year old Andrea Sawatzki had to look after her dad during this time. So it is not surprising that she fell asleep at school from time to time. Her grades suffered as well, of course. Friends and fun in her childhood? Nothing. “We were completely isolated and at the edge of our powers,” says the actress, who now lives in Berlin.
Father dies, she throws herself into acting
Andrea Sawatzki looks after her father until she is 15 years old – then he dies. She continues to feel left alone and says, “If there had been someone to take care of me back then, I probably wouldn’t have failed school and could have had a normal childhood. Because the school throws her out two years after her dad died. The pressure is obviously too much while she is still looking to sort her life out. Great tragedies often lead to great success. So also with Andrea Sawatzki. She asserts herself in acting and starts her impressive career. Especially nice: In the end she also finds the great family happiness and can now offer her children what she herself never had as a child.
